Welcome to the Association of State Criminal Investigative Agencies (ASCIA) website. ASCIA is a professional association consisting of the senior executives of the state wide criminal investigative agencies in the United States whether they are independent bureau within the state or a state police agency with both criminal and other enforcement responsibilities.

ASCIA was initially incorporated as a non-profit association in 1978 by eleven state criminal investigative agency’s senior executives to discuss mutual concerns and areas of potential cooperative effort. Today, that number of active member agencies covers almost every state in the United States.

The mission of the association has not changed:

  • The open sharing of ideas and innovative approaches to improving public safety and solving common problems;
  • Fostering of improved communications and cooperation by enhancing relationships between the member agencies;
  • Collaboration and development of strategic policies on significant national and regional issues affecting state level investigative agencies;
  • Providing a forum for developing strategies and appropriate follow-up on recommendations and proposals;
  • Biannual meetings which promote a fraternal atmosphere while providing the membership with training and education;
  • Advocacy of sound policies and procedures which promote the principles and interest of the membership; and
  • Networking with member agencies to insure the timely exchange of information and sharing of expertise in the field.

The association hosts two major conferences a year. One in the spring, usually in May, in a different state each year and one in the fall just prior to, and in the same city as, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

ASCIA prides itself in working to represent the concerns and issues of its members but also working with the major law enforcement associations on national issues of mutual concern.
